How far would you walk?

How far would you walk to deliver a gift? Not just any gift but the perfect gift. The story of two women named Violette illustrates this beautifully. They are part of the Women of Hope teaching teams, committed to sharing their knowledge and faith. On a particular day, they had a teaching scheduled at a church located 30 kilometers from their home.

Under normal circumstances, the journey would have been manageable by car or motorcycle taxi. However, due to a lack of fuel and the challenges posed by the rainy season, those options were unavailable. Instead of being deterred, the two Violettes and three close friends made the decision to walk. This decision was not merely about the distance; it was a testament to their commitment and unity.

Their journey commenced in the midst of heavy rains, as they navigated muddy roads and treacherous paths. Each step was a reminder of the challenges they faced, yet each step also reinforced the support and encouragement they provided to one another. Together, they shared stories, laughter, and prayers, strengthening the bond of sisterhood in faith.

After three and a half hours of perseverance, they finally arrived at the church. Their dedication did not go unnoticed. Because of their unwavering commitment, 148 women gathered to hear God’s word and to engage in fellowship. The perfect gift — the gift of knowledge — was delivered that day, not in the form of a simple package, but through the resilience and love embodied by the two Violettes and their friends. Their journey serves as a remarkable testament to the power of faith and sisterhood, illustrating how far one will walk to deliver hope and inspiration to others.

As I talked to Violette the night she returned, she expressed her exhaustion, but also the joy she felt from a fulfilling day of teaching and connecting with the women at that church. After a decade away, she was astonished to see the transformation—the church had flourished, rebuilding and expanding beyond the confines of the old mud brick structure. The dedication of these remarkable women, who traveled great distances to receive God’s word, reaffirms the importance of the Women of Hope seminars. They serve as vital pathways of hope not only for the women themselves but also for their families. We invite you to consider supporting this program as we seek new ministry partners to empower these women to embody the hands and feet of Jesus in their communities.

As I mentioned in my last post they are also the Women of WOW! If you were unable to view the video in the last post be sure and click on “view in browser” at the top of this page.
